VISA POLICY TO SOUTHEAST ASIA COUNTRIES 2023
LAOS VISA POLICY
For tourists planning to visit Laos, it’s important to check the visa requirements before you go. Some visitors may be pleased to learn that Laos offers visa exemptions for tourists from certain countries. The most notable visa exemption is for citizens of ASEAN member countries, which include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, along with South Korea. These citizens are granted visa-free entry for up to 30 days.
Other countries that enjoy visa exemptions to Laos include Japan, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Russia, and Mongolia, each of which allows for visa-free stays of up to 15 or 21 days, depending on the country.
The visa policy requires foreign nationals to obtain a visa in advance to gain entry. Laos offers three types of tourist visas, and the online application process eliminates the need for in-person applications or waiting in border queues. Approximately 160 countries have the option to apply for a visa online.
1. Laos E-visa:
Laos tourist E-visa is a single-entry permit, allowing tourists to stay for a maximum of 30 consecutive days in Laos for tourism purposes. Around 160 countries are eligible to apply for an E-visa to visit Laos for a single entry for a maximum stay of 30 days. From the date of E-visa approval, a visitor can enter Laos for 60 days.
2. Laos Visa on Arrival
Certain foreigners who intend to visit Laos must follow Laos visa policy and get a Lao visa at the port of entry. There are currently less than 10 nationalities that require a visa on arrival to enter Laos for short stays.
The Laos visa policy grants visas on arrival to a limited number of countries, so eligible citizens can stay in the country no longer than 30 days with a single-entry travel document. Visas on arrival, however, often require long application processes at border checkpoints.
