Itinerary
Day 01: Hanoi – Mai Chau – Lac – Poom Coong Village (L, D)
Day 02: Mai Chau – Hang Kia – Pa Co - Hanoi (B, L)
08.00: Travel onto Mai Chau by coach. The journey is approximately 3.5hrs, with wonderful scenery including rice paddies and green mountains. A short break along the way to absorb the beauty of the area.
Arrived at Mai Chau, we check in the hotel. We refresh ourselves and then walk along the rice paddies, visit Lac village and Poom Coong village, home of a Thai ethnic minority group. This will offer you a rustic experience in traditional Thai stilt houses. Villagers will sometimes organize traditional song-and-dance performances in the evenings and anyone is free to join the fun.
Local lunch at the house on stilts of H'mong people.
Back to the local house or the hotel, have dinner and enjoy the traditional music dance show (optional).
Overnight in Mai Chau.
After breakfast, we transfer by car to Hang Kia (45 minutes), passing villages of Muong and Dzao tribal groups. Stop on the way to visit Pa Co and Xa Linh communes, home to H’mong people with their interesting ethnic market (every Sunday morning in Xa Linh).
If you visit Mai Chau during weekends, it is a wonderful time to visit Pa Co Sunday market in the morning. The market is a small one that runs every Sunday. Local people, mostly H’Mong coming from the surrounding neighborhood, come here to trade. Market starts early in the morning and finishes a couple of hours before noon.
Arrive in Hang Kia, a typical H’mong village, peacefully nestled in a small valley at 1200m altitude. Have lunch at a local house then walk to discover the community. Transfer back to Mai Chau. Afterwards, we return to Hanoi.
