Hanoi street food tour – Half day
Overview
” The U.S. speaker once said that the “kitchen of the world” could be a suitable image for Vietnam. Vietnamese cuisine doesn't win any points for complexity. Many of the most popular dishes can be made just on the side of the road. But it's precisely this simplicity, the subtle variations by region and the fresh ingredients, that keep us pulling up a plastic stool for more. The street food tour is a perfect way to explore the traditional Vietnamese cuisine around Hanoi.
Pick you up from your hotel, then we visit Dong Xuan market and start our street food tour in Ta Hien – Luong Ngoc Quyen – Hang Giay – Dao Duy Tu streets, where you will be shown many kinds of local and traditional dishes. Here, you will have a chance to try two dishes between the following foods:
Boiled snails. In the winter time, boiled snails are favorite rustic dishes of young people, especially women in Hanoi. The snails are boiled with lime leaves and lemongrass. The dip to use with boiled snails is also very picky and delicate with finely shredded lime leaves, ginger, garlic, lemongrass, fresh chili, sugar along with fish sauce, rice vinegar and an extra spoonful of boiled snail water which makes a spicy, sweet, sour. Boiled snails and together with steamed clams bring you an unforgettable experience.
Bun Cha (a type of noodle soup with pork BBQ). All of the preparation and content are explained by the guide. The guide also tells the daily life of the common Vietnamese, experiencing something that the Vietnamese used a lot in cooking, dried foods, spices and fresh herbs.
Banh Cuon: these rolled up rice flour pancakes are best when served piping hot, still soft and delicate. Although seemingly slender and empty, they have a savory filling of minced pork and mushrooms. This is one of the most famous dishes in Ha Noi and has been along with Hanoian for years.
The tour ends with a bowl of Che (best had when you're craving something sweet on a hot day in Hanoi) or Egg Coffee at 39 Nguyen Huu Huan street. If you wanna have a grasp of how young Vietnamese people have fun, we can stop at Ta Hien street to have a glass of our local beer.
